The Sheikh Lotfallah Mosque was built under orders from Shah Abbas the Great in honour of his son-in law, a major promoter of the Shia religion in Iran. The building sits on Imam Square in the heart of Esfahan and is considered to be of exceptional beauty.
The mosque interior is characterized by a large dome and tiling throughout the interior which is in the 'Slimy' style (lots of flowers). The unusual thing about the tiling in this mosque is the use of the colour cream.
