Inti Raymi Festival

Region:South America
Country:Peru
City:Cusco

Description

Inti Raymi = The festival of the sun. Was celebrated by the Incas in honor of the sun solstice and it's still celebrated nowadays by thousands of Peruvians and tourists (although it's definitely not a tourists show). Happens on June 24th (I think) and takes place in Sacsayhuamán, which is within walking distance from Cusco - the ancient Inca capital.
A few days before the ceremony itself, the whole city is in non-stop celebration, which makes the whole atmosphere quite ecstatic
